JIMI AND POGO TOP FINISHERS AT FIRST WINTER GAMES

The first ARF! Winter Games were held on January 23, 1994 at the Pet Lodge Agility Field.

Following the competitors' traditional exchange of play bows, Ted Roessner, commissioner of the Winter Games, made the pronouncement - "Let the games begin!"

Competition was held in two classes - Dog Biscuit and Dogstar. Jimi, a standard poodle handled by Kate Rauscher, won the Dog Biscuit class. Beth Baker and Pogo, the aptly named mixed breed, were winners of the Dogstar event.

The course design selected for the competition was based on the 1991 Pedigree Agility World Cup Course. Handlers found the middle of the course to be a challenging test, requiring concentration and focus in order to follow the correct sequence of the obstacles.

In a special seniors event, 13-year-old Cue, handled by Daniel Pyron, awed spectators with a spritely round. In the team relay competition, the veterans Cue and Amanda (a mere 11-year-old), defeated the young upstart teams of Jimi/Pogo and Sherman/Sam.
